Using the Mimecast Outlook Addin

A. This section contains search functions. You can search for just about any subject. Keep in mind that this only affects email from or to OUTSIDE the company. It does not affect internal Monona Bank correspondence.

B. This section contains functions relating to the company spam blocker. 

  • The Report Spam button can mark an email message as spam or a possible Phishing attempt and that will block the sender as well as report the sender to Mimecast for investigation. Begin by selecting an email, click the Report Spam button, and select whether to mark an email as Spam or as a Phishing attempt.
  • The Block Senders button will block a sender or an entire email domain. Begin by selecting an email and then select the Block Senders button. From there, you can block an individual or an entire domain.
  • Managed Senders allows you to type in an email address to either block or permit. Select the Managed Senders button and then choose either Blocked or Permitted in the lefthand pane. From there, click Add and you can type in an address.

The On-Hold Messages button shows you your Mimecast spam quarantine. From there, you can release, reject, or mark a message as spam. To access this, click On Hold Messages > Personal On Hold.

C. To be used in the event of Outlook email issues when access to your email is required during an Microsoft O365 email outage. 

D. This section has the settings as well as the help page and version history.


When composing or replying to an email, the options in the Mimecast toolbar change! See the settings below:


A. The Send Securely option will encrypt the email. This will force the recipient to set up a Mimecast account and sign in to retrieve the email. Click Send Securely and select External Email to send the email encrypted.
B. This section contains stationary and attachment options that are not used by the bank at present.
C. This section has the settings as well as the help page and version history.
